World Junior Championships Conclude (December 20, 2008) |

Team Results Released ... Organizers recently confirmed that Team USA reclaimed the Junior World Cup (for 14-, 16-, 18- division play) after a seven-year hiatus, while Mexico dominated the Esprit Cup for 10- and 12- competition. IRF recordbooks now list both team finishes and individual championship titles.

After several years of dedicated service, IRF webmaster Mike Mesecke recently stepped down to concentrate on his legal practice, while original IRF site creator Linda Mojer has agreed to manage the project. Mojer designed the first IRF website during her tenure as Managing Editor of RACQUETBALL magazine, and has since established her own web management company specializing in editorial, marketing and content development for internet properties. |

For the first time since 2005, two non-US players secured wins at the 2008 US OPEN Racquetball Championships. Kane Waselenchuk roared back onto the IRT this season and reclaimed his US OPEN crown - also setting a landmark four-time event win record with a decisive victory over defending champ Rocky Carson. In her first US OPEN final, 19-year old Paola Longoria of Mexico won the WPRO title in Memphis, with a win over veteran Cheryl Gudinas Holmes. |

Racquetball Re-confirmed for 2011 Pan Am Games (Oct 24, 2008) |

At the recent PASO general Assembly, racquetball was confirmed for The Pan Am Games 2011 program in Guadalajara, Mexico. The announcement was made before 700 of the most important sport leaders in this hemisphere.
“It was a very exciting moment for the sport” stated Osvaldo Maggi, president of the Pan American Racquetball Confederation ”this confirms that Racquetball will continue as a full medal sport in the single most important multi international sports competition, second only to the Olympic games in importance. This keeps the Olympic chain in place for us [and] we are also now eligible for Olympic Solidarity Funds which will allow us to continue to develop our coaches and officials in this hemisphere.” |

The newly-formed Munster Womens Grand Prix Series featured Joan Kennedy ruling supreme on home soil in Templederry.
Last years team captain Eithne Skehan will be the sole Munster player to travel to the upcoming Junior Worlds. Best of luck to Eithne in her last year of eligibility for this event. |

WADA 2009 Prohibited List Now Published (Sep

Committee on September 20, the 2009 List of Prohibited
Substances and Methods is now available. This List will go
into effect on January 1, 2009. |

Open 2008 a bit later than usual (Sep

Germany's
Hamburg Open Championships 2008 are scheduled late this year:
Usually held the third week of September, this year's event
will be held the end of October to give European players and
officials more time to relax after the World Championships in
Kingscourt, Ireland. The 2008 Hamburg Open will be the second
event of the European Racquetball Tour now. |

takes place October 9th – 12th at the Mayfield Inn, Edmonton
Alberta, Canada.
This event is an IRT Tour and WPRO Tier I
event that will showcase the world’s best players from
both the IRT Tour and WPRO. |

European Racquetball Tour (ERT) 2008/2009 kicks off in
Schinnen, The Netherlands. The 2008 Dutch Open Championships
will be held October 10 - 12 at the Schinnen Fitness Center.
Players from all over Europe are expected to compete in
Schinnen. |

Cali 2008 now an IRT event (Sep

Good
news for the 2008 International Racquetball Tournament in
Cali, Colombia. IRT Director Dave Negrete informed the
organizers that this years' event was accepted as an
official IRT event as part of the season 2008-2009. The
event is sanctioned as Tier 4 Satelite. The IRT is the
International Racquetball Tour, the mens
professional racquetball circuit. |

IRF World Senior Racquetball Championships have been
successfully concluded last Saturday in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
19 athletes from 15 countries were represented during this
event. Congratulations to some "new" and "old" world
champions!! |

will be held in Santiago de Cali, Colombia on October
08-12 this year in the Club Deportivo Cañasgordas. The
event is sanctioned by the Federación Colombiana de

Korea (Aug

Did you know
that in Korea more than 60% of racquetball members are women?
They play an important role in the growth of the sport in
Korea. The Koreans call it (Ajumma power). Korean
Racquetball is hosting the first International Women’s
Racquetball Tournament at the An San World Spotion, Kyunggido
on November 8-9, 2008 to show it's gratitude to all the
Korean women players for their endless support and passions. This
year, only players from Japan and Korea will compete
but others are expected in the years ahead.. |
